 | Intellon Corporation designs and sells integrated circuits (ICs) for powerline communications, providing HomePlug® - compliant and other powerline ICs for home networking, networked entertainment, BPL access, Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC), smart grid management and other commercial applications.
Intellon is a leader in powerline communications technology. Intellon developed and patented the baseline technology behind the initial standard adopted by the HomePlug Powerline Alliance, a global industry group formed to create and promote standards for powerline communications. In 2001, Intellon introduced the first HomePlug-based ICs. In 2006, Intellon introduced the first HomePlug AV-based IC, which can deliver the quality of service required to support reliable, uninterrupted distribution of standard-and high definition video among personal computers and consumer electronics products.
With more than 26 million HomePlug-based ICs sold, Intellon is the market share leader in the HomePlug IC market. Intellon's leadership positions the company to capitalize on growth markets such are home networking, media and entertainment systems connectivity as well as enabling the further convergence of PC and consumer electronics applications.
Intellon ICs are used to create instant home networks, using the home's existing electrical wiring. By simply plugging HomePlug adapters into wall outlets, consumers can quickly and effortlessly share data and entertainment content between PCs, broadband modems, set-top boxes, gaming consoles and audio/video devices anywhere in the home. Especially suited for entertainment content, Intellon's HomePlug AV ICs allow distribution of multiple HDTV streams over in-home electrical wiring.
Intellon is also a provider of lower bandwidth Spread Spectrum Carrier (SSC) ICs used for Command and Control applications, with millions of ICs sold worldwide.
Intellon is a charter member of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance and is actively involved in IEEE P1901 BPL and other wireline communications standards.
